In 1972 the first issue of Soccer Madison was published, the first newsletter in the Madison area exclusively devoted to soccer.

Here are the opening lines of the editorial:

"One of the reasons which prompted the publishing of this newsletter was because of the minimal publicity received by soccer from the Madison news media."
